I hope that this post will inspire someone.
Growing up I had an amazing childhood. My parents have blessed me with just about everything that I could’ve ever imagined for (and still do). The newest electronics, games, shoes, toys, and more. I was also blessed enough to be able to play sports all my life. I started playing volleyball in 5th grade, basketball in the 7th along with track and field. Eventually becoming a star athlete throughout middle school and high school. During my senior year I received a full scholarship to play basketball at a junior college two hours away from home. This was such an amazing time in my life and I couldn’t be prouder of myself!

My first semester in college was tough. I didn’t expect so much work or the amount of focus needed to achieve my goals. Being an athlete and taking 16 credits was a lot for an 18-year-old (for me I’ll say). Waking up at 5:30am for practice, class at 9:00, practice again at 5:00pm, really takes a toll on your body and mind. If you can’t tell by now that homework is not my favorite thing, well here we go. I slacked off in all my classes, never really cared about getting A’s or being on the deans list. My motto then (and kind of still is): “If I pass, then I play.” Being studious was never in the cards for me and to some extent I was okay with that.
After completing my first two years of college and getting my associates; my next thought was, “what’s next?” I made the decision to quit basketball because I didn’t have the love for it anymore. I began coaching and training kids (like most retired players do lol). Because I didn’t have a game plan or a clear path of what I wanted to do in life. I enrolled at my community college to stay active in school, mainly because my parents had a rule: “if you’re not in school, then you have to work.” Two semesters there and I found a calling to be in the communications field, what I would take up? I didn’t know yet.
From there, I searched schools out of state because I was just done with Texas at the time. The people, the atmosphere…OVER IT! My best friend and I came to Miami for spring break (2014) where I fell in love! The city, the food, the beach…no so much the people lol. I stumbled across Barry University (like most students) applied and got in. I came in as an undeclared major. Eventually finding my passion in broadcasting; working with cameras, producing, writing and directing. From that moment on I never looked back at the struggles that I faced to get me where I am now.

Today, I am currently the president of the TV and Film club, manager at 99.5 the mix- our student radio station and manager of the advertising team at our student newspaper. Coming to Barry has changed me for the better and I’m proud to be here. I’ve made the Dean’s list, accomplished many goals and networked with so many people. In my eyes, being a Boss is not about talking the talk, but you have to walk the walk. Going from a C student to and A student blew my mind. It took me a while to find myself, but I know now that being a boss is what I’m good at. I trained myself to set GOALS, have TIME MANAGEMENT, be AMBITIOUS, all while staying MOTIVATED! #BOSSTALK
